Canadian Sovereignty Still Under Attack by Harper Government

A long, long time ago
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while

But February made me shiver
With every paper I delivered
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

No I'm not having another melancholy nervous breakdown. I just love this song. It's hard to believe that it is from almost 40 years ago, and yet it's still popular today. Baby Boomers really do rock.

I actually wanted to post on another area of grave concern that is further threatening Canadian sovereignty. Not the Buy America/Sell Canada deal that Harper struck during his 2 1/2 month vacation, but the extension of the Security and Prosperity Partnership in terms of national security.

A scheme was 'quietly' developed between our military and the U.S.: Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies.

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal

Neither the Canadian Government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas. The U.S. military’s Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

Again we have to go to American or foreign websites to find out what's happening in our own country. The joys of having a government that doesn't believe in talking to it's citizens. U.S. Northern Command, Canada Command establish new bilateral Civil Assistance Plan

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, and Canadian Air Force Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, commander of Canada Command, have signed a Civil Assistance Plan that allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The signing of this plan is an important symbol of the already strong working relationship between Canada Command and U.S. Northern Command,” Dumais said. “Our commands were created by our respective governments to respond to the defense and security challenges of the twenty-first century, and we both realize that these and other challenges are best met through cooperation between friends.”

Now they never really elaborate on what would constitute a 'civil' emergency. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I might delve further into one of the fathers of the neoconservative movement, Leo Strauss. He recognizes that once the agenda is put in place, people are going to be pretty upset, so maybe they're planning for repercussions. You have to remember that most of the people in our current government are nuts, so who knows what their rationale is.

For the U.S. they are hardly going to turn down such a gift, that is being handed over to them for nothing. 'Free. ... Canada ... take it, it's yours. ... no really, I insist'. (Harper's side of the debate)

It's rather interesting that the Canadian media turned this into a left/right issue.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S. The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which is campaigning against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, is raising concerns about the deal.“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

I think all Canadians should be concerned with this.

Peter Van Loan and Stockwell Day have been working on a one military/one police plan for some time, under the guise of needed security. One of the pitfalls of this, is that Canada can no longer refuse to join the Americans in war. Jean Chretien was able to keep us out of Iraq, but those days are now gone.

However, when it was discovered that U.S police were training here in an exchange program, and jointly patrolling the waters; we were told that it was only for the Olympics. However, we learn recently that the Reformers want to extend that, like we didn't already know that was their plan.

Canada and U.S. authorities are talking about extending cross-border security measures that were implemented for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and were to end with the closing of the Winter Games.

The RCMP and the U.S. Coast Guard have jointly patrolled the waters off Vancouver since the beginning of the month, boarding nearly 200 vessels and interviewing about 500 people in their efforts to maintain security, RCMP Sergeant Duncan Pound of the border integrity program said in an interview.

I'm not comfortable with this at all. American laws are not the same as Canadian. Not yet anyway, though soon. We need to hold onto what little we have left to call our own. American Republicanism may be a perfect fit for Stephen Harper, but not for us.

Did someone say 'American'? Smile, we will get our country back, I promise. But in the meantime, enjoy:
